Current Treatments and Technology Ensure Quality and Comfort
On average, Dr. Carter completes over 40 hours of advanced continuing education per year. This ensures he’s up-to-date on the latest treatments and technology so that you, his patient, will benefit.
We’re committed to using current dental technology. It not only makes our patients more comfortable, but it ensures our treatments proceed efficiently. When we use technology like chair-side computers and intra-oral digital cameras, you will receive a clearer picture of your current dental health.
Inquiries about our hygiene and sterilization are very common when an individual is in search of a new dentist. Our office is more than happy to answer any questions that you may have about these areas of our practice. We also use the latest technology in equipment sterilization, as well as barrier control procedures to prevent cross-contamination, and an independent testing service regularly monitors our sterilization equipment.

New Patient Exam
Dr. Carter’s examination for new adult patients sets our dental office apart. Before getting their teeth cleaned, each adult patient consults with Dr. Carter. This accomplishes two things:
- You will have the opportunity to meet Dr. Carter before any treatment is performed and ask him any questions about your dental health.
- Dr. Carter will examine your teeth, supporting tissues, and TMJ jaw joints, as well as perform an oral cancer screening.
During your first visit, we will take digital photos and x-rays that can be displayed on a screen for you to review. You can also see the images, so it is easier to understand and communicate any concerns or problems. You will also find that being part of the process and discussion makes your dentist visit much more pleasant!

Preventive Care Services
We want our patients to have healthy teeth and gums that last a lifetime. To maintain a strong mouth and prevent potential dental problems, you need three things:
- Regular dental checkups
- Professional dental cleanings
- Habitual at-home dental care
At the initial examination and each subsequent visit, we check for periodontal disease (gum disease). Periodontal disease has been linked to an increased risk of stroke and heart attack. We customize your hygiene appointments according to the level of health or disease diagnosed at the initial comprehensive exam – specifically for your individual dental needs.
Besides patient education, routine cleanings, and thorough checkups, our preventive care services include:
- Removal of tartar to aid in the treatment of periodontal disease
- Dental sealants
- Nightguards and TMJ guards

Cosmetic Services
Your smile isn’t just a reflection of how you feel – it is an immeasurable asset. If you’d like to improve your smile, we offer many cosmetic services.
To whiten your teeth, we offer professional teeth bleaching. Please take a moment to learn more about our Brighter Smiles for Brighter Futures program. Participating in Brighter Smiles means you can fight cancer and whiten your smile at the same time!
For porcelain veneers, crowns, onlays, and inlays, Dr. Carter often creates a diagnostic mock-up of the final case and a photographic assessment.
The mock-up is a 3D model designed by Dr. Carter that represents the proposed final smile. This means that before treatment begins, a patient can see what their smile will look like. Once approved by the patient and the dentist, Dr. Carter uses the mock-up to design the final restorations and smile.
Our cosmetic services include:
- All porcelain crowns
- Bonded front and back tooth fillings
- Gum sculpting
- Porcelain onlays and inlays
- Porcelain veneers
- Professional tooth whitening

Gum Disease (Periodontal Disease) Treatment
Gum disease, an all-too-common problem, can be painful and frustrating. To help fight this disease, we provide several services to our patients. We use computerized tracking of periodontal health, as well as charting of new decay, wear patterns, and recession of the gums. At every recall appointment, we check the supporting tissues to ensure that they are healthy, and we also perform a cancer exam.
For those who require therapy for gum disease, we routinely use ultrasonic scaling and fluoride treatment for children and high-risk adults. For more severe cases, we refer our patients to a competent specialist and maintain continual communication between offices.
